Dehumidification of bridges

Dehumidification with a DST dehumidifier provides the advantages of excellent corrosion protection, longer durability and the saving of resources.
Corrosion damage can lead to large costs in bridge construction worldwide. The bridge construction is assured against corrosion through development of an environment that keeps a maximum of 50%RH around the steel construction. Corrosion of mild steel components and high tensile support wires can soon compromise structural integrity resulting in safety issues, costly traffic restrictions and ultimately bridge closure.

Dehumidification within defense

In the early 70’s, NATO organisations began to use desiccant dehumidifiers to protect valuable military equipment against degradation from airborne moisture. This has now become routine for militaries all over the world. Inactive ships, tanks, aircraft, weapons and supplies are maintained in a state of readiness by dry air storage.

This technology provides an increased combat readiness whilst significantly reducing maintenance costs.

Dehumidification of greenhouses

Dehumidification with a DST dehumidifier gives a greater control of relative humidity, reduction of corp loss and save of energy costs . In greenhouses there’s a tendency to have high moisture content during the day. This is because of high temperatures in the green house whereas at night the condensation rate of the moisture in the air is high due to low temperatures. As a result, condensate forms on cooler surfaces, creating a conducive environment for mildew and fungi such as botrytis which in turn damages the yield. Introduction of a dehumidifier to such an environment would regulate humidity and temperature within the green house.

Desiccant dehumidification in the shipping industry

There is a lot of benefits of dry air in the shipping industry. Above all, you can minimise downtime in port for tankers that are changing cargo. A mobile dehumidifier will shorten the drying process.
Dehumidifying cargo holds
Hygroscopic cargo such as coffee, tea, tobacco, paper and powder are particularly affected by humidity during global transit. As sea temperatures fall, air in the cargo hold cools causing a rise in the internal relative humidity – often to the point where condensation is formed.

Dehumidification of oil platforms and ships
Combined with the aggressive nature of salt, humidity is a major cause of corrosion to marine structures. It can dramatically reduce the lifetime of machinery and seriously affect the reliability of electrical equipment.

Surface treatment

Dehumidification shortens working time, ensures high quality and guarantees an equal result all year around. Desiccant technology is effective in creating a year round humidity controlled environment to avoid corrosion during surface preparation. Corrosion rates accelerate exponentially with relative humidity (RH) over 50% and most coating compliance is 80%RH on a metal surface. The effect of thermal inertia usually required the surrounding air to be 20-30%RH (39-43°F, temperature difference from surface to air) less than the required surface humidity to allow for this.

Other methods of heating require full surface heating which causes very high energy costs. Refrigeration is only effective in climates which is humid all year round and it is still unable to achieve the dryness required due to the surface humidity requirement.

Dehumidification projects waterworks and pump stations

In waterworks and pump stations, problems often occur with condensation on cold surfaces. A DST dehumidifier will reduce the humidity in the air and the result will be a condensation and corrosion free room. Water, our most important provision
Less than 3% of all the water on Earth is freshwater, of which we use around 1%. Energy-efficient processing in a clean environment maintaining high levels of hygiene is important on the premises where water is processed. Rust and condensation have no place in water works or pump stations.

A dehumidifier reduces the humidity of a given area. This means that whether the dehumidifier is in your office, your warehouse or your storeroom, it attempts to create a humid-free environment. There are numerous types of dehumidifiers varying in shapes, sizes and colours—all are made for different purposes.
